Hair Loss, Alopecia Areata, And a visit to Dr Ting at Jln Imbi

Second week after I started my medical phase 2, which spent more time in wards and hospitals and it is totally different study environment compared to phase 1. I moved to a new place, my best friend who was supposed to stay with me left (due to a reason), I got no transportation (going to school need 8 min drive), and there was no food (no car, and no shops around here), and the house was depressing (with no furnitures, water heater etc), and even school was depressinggg..

The stress factor I believed triggered the cause.

My mother started noticing a bald patch on my scalp, left temporal to be exact. Then, the next day when I showered, I noticed more hair was pulled out when I washed my hair. At first I thought it was nothing, that it might stopped after some time. But I turned out to be wrong, VERY wrong.

The hair loss become gradually worsened, and exaggerated. It goes to my frontal hair, and right temporal hair. My hair thinned in general. And as second week approached, it got even worse. More hair fall out, and it was very obvious that there was sth wrong. I tried some shampoo, which only worked to decrease the oilyness of my hair but did none on my hair loss. I visited a doctor who specialized in skin (dermatitist) in seremban. She managed to give me a blood result to exclude out SLE, hyperthyroidism. But there is evidence that autoimmune problem existed due to low C3 and C4. But she did not solve my problem. She assured me that the hair will come back eventually but did nothing more for my treatment.

After two more weeks, I decided to go visit Dr. Ting, the famous dermatitist mentioned all over the website when you searched 'skin specialist/Dr. Ting hoon chin' I know I should have go visit him even earlier when This problem was less serious.. :(

Anyway, my mother went with me. We took bus from seremban to kl, even though we do have a house in kl, but the drive was long as it's situated at the total opposite site across kl city, and we are not familiar with the roads, so we left our new car back home, so we have to go back to seremban by the day itself. We reached there at 9.30am. GOD... there were so many people inside the clinic. There was no taking of registration numbers. All paitents has to make appointment to see the doctor. If you want to make appointment, you have to book two days earlier. I remembered myself making an appointment once about 3/4 days earlier in the afternoon to book for a sat's appointment, and she said I should call on thurs morning, AND the booking will be filled up very fast if you don't call in fast. If you come without appointment, you can only come at between 8-9 am. that was what she told us.

We are lucky because the nurse agreed to give me a call after knowing I came all the way here to see the doctor. I was called back at 12. Rushed there from sungai wang. registered, and waited till 2. and I was called in.

He looked at my scalp, and told me the diagnosis. A.A -- Alopecia areata. I expected it. since I googled up the website, and putting two to two according to what the previous doctor told me. Therefore, I was not surprised to see Dr. Ting to take out the injections vial and needles and syringe and drawed three times (which I am not sure of the volume of med - probably rogaine) and poked at least 6 different areas on my head. (mainly on the places where I loss the hair)

It was ... scary and numbed. And I tell myself to stay strong. But in the end I still have to lie down for the last injection cause I was feeling a bit dizzy and weak. I couldn't help but remembered and worried about the side effects of the med and the prognosis of my illness, now that it's confirmed.

When I finished, I was prescribed with a 'lotion' which I presumed to be steroids and also orange medications. I probably will ask about the names of the med next time when I visited. My next schedule will be on one month later. So I have to go for another six months for the injections, each time three big injections... omg... My hair...

I still wished for my hair to grow back.. It's very obvious if one took a closer look at my hair. I ABSOLUTELY do not want it to come back.. but knowing what I am having, there is no guarantee.. :(

Hi... My name Kokiez from seremban. I'm having the exact same problem as yours and eventually at the same spots of my head... It's been about more than a month now since my mother first saw the patch on my head and I think it's getting worse.... Hope you will update and help me out if possible... Thanking you in advance!

hi, Kokiez, I had updated the first post on my problem and what happened now. My advice to you
1. Find out your stress source (if any) and try to solve it all out.
2. If you want a fast solution, you can try the injection like I did. It does work. It's better to get treatment earlier if you notice the progression is very rapid, cause it will only make you feel more depressing and frustrating, and this will result in even MORE hair fall.
3. you can talk to me any time! I will show you my pics of how I gradually regained all the hair. :) Talk to me and I'll let you see hope, I hope this will help you feel better.
add me at lisse_forsaken88@hotmail.com
4. Know that this is not a permanent disease. It does recover, but takes time.

Hi Lee. it's all solved now. ;) It took about four to five months to stop, another half four to six months for it to grow to acceptable length for me. treatment was fairly expensive. 100-200+

Mine is alright now. I spent about RM150 in total for 3 sessions of medication. I went to this clinic in Seremban. Badshah Skin Specialist. The doctor gave me injections and an ointment. I find it kind of cheap

is truth that Dr. Ting can solve hair loss problem?

how much cost consultation + medi / injection?

how long can see the result?

lisse88 said...

Yes. It solved mine. :)it was so bad that I went into depression. as of now, u can see my recent blog for pics.

cost of consultation costs me over rm100 to 200 per session. need to go every month. cost depends on injection and types medications. losing took four-five months. growing back started after fourth or fifth injection, and took me one year to recover neck length. recover varies on every people.
